PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Stock Exchanges of Mauritius sustained the positive sentiment started yesterday, so the equity markets ended in the green zone. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 208.180 billion after gaining MUR 476 million (about US$13.5 million) compared to the previous market capitalization of MUR 207.704 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) gained 0.23 percent or 4.27 points to close at 1,869.41 and SEM10 index grew by 0.36 percent or 1.27 points to close at 357.59 points.
In respect of the market activity, the overall total volume trade ended at 959,183 (a fall relative to a volume of 1,531,308 recorded on the previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 11.933 million (a decreased relative to MUR 7.349 million recorded at the previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings Limited recorded 612,100 (about 63.82 percent of total volume) at MUR 489,635 and Mauritius Development Investment Trust registered 205,123 traded stocks amounted to MUR 1.024 million. MCB Group had 41,337 at MUR 8.639 million and LOTTOTECH Limited recorded a total volume of 32,733 shares at MUR 107,238. CIEL Limited also recorded 24,300 shares at MUR 164,750 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 25 traded securities there were 4 price gainers and 5 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended in a negative. BLUELIFE Limited grew by 0.99 percent to end at MUR 4.10, MCB Group soared by 0.97 percent to end at MUR 209.00 and Air Mauritius Limited jumped by 0.48 percent to trade at MUR 10.40. Also, LUX Island Resorts Limited traded at MUR 57.50 by adding 0.44 percent
On the hand, New Mauritius Hotels (Preference) sagged by 3.64 percent to settle at MUR 10.60, United Basalts Product Limited plummeted by 1.28 percent to end at MUR 77.00 and Mauritius Oil & Refinery Limited dropped 0.75 percent to end at MUR 26.30. Fincorp Investment Limited ended at MUR 18.60 after sagging by 0.53 percent and GAMMA Civic Limited closed at MUR 25.00 after dipping by 0.40 percent.
The DEMEX index closed at 200.83 points after sagging by 0.06 points or 0.11 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.380 billion after dropping MUR 28 million (relative to MUR 49.408 billion recorded at the previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 4.263 million exchanged in 163,799 traded securities. BYCHEMEX Limited gained 2.56 percent to trade at MUR 8.00, but FIDES Limited declined by 1.16 to end at MUR 64.00 and Hotelest Limited sagged by 0.81 percent to end at MUR 36.75.
